Deputy Secretary General, ICLEI – Local Governments of Sustainability, Bonn, Germany

Monika is Deputy Secretary General of ICLEI - Local Governments of Sustainability and acts as Deputy Executive Director of the ICLEI World Secretariat, Bonn. Her portfolio includes Smart Cities, Resilient Cities, EcoMobility, Biodiversity, ICLEI’s global events, knowledge management, city-to-city exchange and strategy development of the organization.

ICLEI is the leading global network of over 1,500 cities, towns and regions in more than 85 countries, committed to building​ a sustainable future. Their goal is to become sustainable, ​low-carbon, ecomobile, resilient, biodiverse, resource-efficient, healthy and happy.

Working for ICLEI since 1993, Monika had led the ICLEI Capacity Center, central unit for knowledge management, urban research, congresses and city-to-city exchange.

Monika holds a master's degree in political and administrative sciences of the Free University Berlin and has studied journalism in addition. Monika has published and edited various books, founded and edited environmental magazines and publishes frequently on urban issues.
