Ute Collier

Senior Programme Leader, Renewable Energy Division, International Energy Agency (IEA), Paris, France

“To achieve the ambitious Paris climate change targets, we need to fundamentally transform the energy system with more renewables and greater energy efficiency. As many renewables, especially for heat supply, are of a decentralised nature, action at the local level is crucial for achieving this transformation.”

Dr. Ute Collier is Senior Programme Leader in the Renewable Energy Division of the International Energy Agency (IEA). She leads the IEA’s work on renewable heat and on renewable energy policies. This includes looking at the local dimension of heat supply and the role cities can play in increasing the deployment of renewables. Prior to joining the IEA in October 2015, she worked for 6 ½ years at the Committee on Climate Change, a statutory advisory body to the United Kingdom government. Her responsibilities included providing advice on the role of local authorities in achieving climate targets. For this, she built on previous experience gained as London Energy Partnership Manager for the Mayor of London. In her earlier career she worked for several non-governmental organisations and academic institutions.
